100% Peat-Free Coconut Coir Growing Pellets
Our coir fibre is made from coconut husks (a waste by-product from the food industry) making it an eco-friendly and sustainable product. Each coconut coir pellet creates the perfect environment for growing seedlings and cuttings. Coir compost is very lightweight and takes up little room in the shed or cupboard. It is clean and non-smelling so can easily be used indoors. Perfect for new and experienced gardeners.
Each round pellet contains enough growing medium to get your plants started. Just place the amount of pellets you need in a waterproof container, add warm water and leave until the liquid is absorbed and the pellets have swelled and are damp. You are then ready to fill your pellets with seeds and cuttings. Gently press 1 to 2 seeds into each pellet. The planting depth can be controlled by pinching or compacting the pellet. Gently squeeze the tops of the pellets to slightly cover the seeds. Set in a warm and bright location (not in direct sunlight). A sunny windowsill is perfect. Keep the pellets evenly moist while the seeds germinate. When the seedlings are ready for transplant, harden off the plants. Coir pellets can be directly planted into the garden.
N.B When sowing seeds, whether in coconut coir growing pellets or pots with peat-free compost, be sure to label them so you know what you’ve planted. Wooden plant labels are a natural, sustainable, and economical choice. They are exceptionally versatile and can be used indoors or outdoors for labelling seeds, cuttings and plants.
Growing Instructions
Love-In-A-Mist (Nigella)
Sow: Spring or Autumn, Flowering Period: June – August
Sow seeds indoors in coco coir growing pellets (or outdoors) at a depth of 1cm. Once seedlings have established, transfer to pots using peat-free compost or directly to the garden soil. Thinning the resulting seedlings 10-15cm apart will produce larger and sturdier individual plants. Choose well-drained soil in a sunny position. Water regularly.
Forget-Me-Not (Myosotis)
Sow: Spring or Autumn, Flowering Period: April - June
Sow seeds indoors in coco coir growing pellets (or outdoors) at a depth of 0.5cm. Once seedlings have established, transfer to pots using peat-free compost or directly to the garden soil. They prefer moist soil with good drainage in a sunny or shady spot. Water regularly.
Poppy
Sow: Spring or Autumn, Flowering Period: June - September
Sow seeds very thinly across the ground. Allow 7-30 days to germinate, depending on the variety, soil condition and growing temperatures. Once the seedlings are large enough to handle, thin them out to around 30cm apart. Choose a sunny spot with good drainage. Water regularly.
